Approve Logins with Push
Push notifications make authentication fast and secure. Here's how to use them effectively.
Responding to a Push Request
When you see a push notification:
- Review the details - Check the service, location, and device
- Verify it's you - Make sure you initiated this login
- Tap the notification to open AffirmID
- Approve or Deny the request
Quick Approval
For even faster authentication:
- From the notification - Some devices let you approve directly from the notification banner
- With biometrics - Enable Face ID or fingerprint to approve with one gesture
- Apple Watch - Approve requests from your wrist
Number Matching
For extra security, some services use number matching:
- The login screen shows a 2-digit number
- Your push notification shows three numbers
- Tap the number that matches
- This prevents attackers from social engineering approvals
What to Do If You Didn't Request It
If you receive a push notification you didn't initiate:
- Tap Deny immediately
- Change your password on that service
- Check for unauthorized access in your account's security settings
- Report the incident to your IT team or the service provider
Best Practices
- Always verify the location matches where you are
- Be suspicious of requests at unusual times
- Never approve a request someone asks you to approve
- Enable number matching when available
